Lions and Tigers...Oh My!

There is a chapter of the Lions Club in almost every American city.  The Lions Club is a humanitarian organization that is focused on community service. Lions Club International is the largest service organization in the world with over 1.35 million members. That number recently got a little bit larger due to the start of the Lincoln University Chapter that was established on December 23, 2013.

This is the first time that Lincoln has had a Lions Club chapter on campus. The idea started with Carlos Graham who, in addition to being Lincoln's Housing Director, is the current President of the Jefferson City Host Lions Club. The JC Host Lions served as the "Guiding Lions" for the LU Chapter, to assist them with meetings and the development of organizational procedures. There are forty-four charter members that consist of students, faculty and staff.  However, community members such as family, friends and alumni are also welcomed to join the LU Chapter.

LUPD SGT Kevin Pigford is Secretary for the
Lincoln University Chapter of the International Lions Club
The current elected officers
are as  follows:

Chapter President:
          Misty Young
Chapter Secretary:
          SGT Kevin Pigford
Treasurer:
           Cynthia Scroggins
Membership Co-Coordinator:
            Liz Morrow
Membership Co-Coordinator:
            Allen House

There are still positions open for Vice-President, Lion Tamer and Tail Twister. The new chapter meets twice monthly in Page Library on Lincoln University's campus.  The meetings are in room 101 on the first Tuesday of the month at 11:00 am and the third Thursday of the month at 2:00 pm. You can find out more on their website sponsored by LCI at:

The group is currently discussing and voting on what the specific humanitarian service focuses will be for this chapter, since each chapter is member driven and decide for themselves how their service projects will be targeted. This is a great opportunity for community service and connecting with so many students, agencies and individuals in our area.

If you are interested in being involved, please contact one of the membership coordinators. Liz Morrow can be reached by phone at (573) 681-5033 or via email at morrowl@lincolnu.edu.  Allen House can be contacted via email at allen.house528@my.lincolnu.edu.
